More Like This - Beta

Thu Aug 30, 2012, 11:41 AM
DeviantART is proud to announce two major improvements to the way you browse and discover artwork on the site.  And as Beta Testers, we’d like you to be the first to give these new enhancements a test drive!

Update: Based on user feedback, we've made various changes to More Like This, which you can check out here!

More Like This Beta

Search deviantART using Art

More Like This is deviantART’s newest content discovery tool – enabling you to find similar, relevant deviations, artists, and collections to a chosen deviation.

With More Like This, you can:

Discover Related Art:
More Like This is not image recognition software.  Instead, it looks at where an image exists on the deviantART social graph and finds deviations that are nearby.  This means that members of the deviantART community help define the More Like This results.  Explore the connections and insights of the deviantART community with every click.

Discover Related Artists:
More Like This helps to surface artists that create artwork similar to what you’ve selected, allowing you to find and explore new talent!

Discover Related Collections:
With millions of Collections of artwork curated by the deviantART community, More Like This lets you find collections of favourites from the community that are relevant to the artwork you select.

Using More Like This

On thumbnails:
When using Browse or Search, hover over a deviation and select “More Like This” to find more content similar to that deviation.

More Like This buttons can also be found on deviation pages.

Browse Improvements

Updated Navigation
In order to provide a more uniform approach to navigation, we’ve made some changes to the way you navigate through some types of content on the Browse and Search page. We’ve improved the left-hand navigation bar to include both a primary navigation while on deviantART, the Popular/Newest options, and the category picker you know and love. Additionally, we’ve improved the overall design of the sidebar, providing it with a cleaner look.

Full View Mode
In addition to the thumb wall and thumb grid views we introduced, we have now introduced full view mode, allowing you to browse through deviations at a larger size. This option also gives you the ability to favourite, collect, view comments, and participate in the discussion right from the browse page!

Endless Scrolling
We’ve replaced our outdated page system on our main discovery pages (browse, search, and More Like This) with endless scrolling, allowing you to dynamically load more deviations as you scroll, without the need to go jumping back and forth between pages.

Try It Out

We’d like to invite all of our Beta Testers to give More Like This and the new Browse interface a try!

This is a big change to how browse and search works on deviantART, so please let us know if you find any bugs or issues. If you come across any problems while browsing, searching, or using More Like This, let us know by filing a ticket in our Issue Tracker.

In addition, we’re interested in hearing your feedback!

  • What do you think of More Like This? What kind of deviations did you find? What did you think of the process?
  • How is your experience browsing through artwork using the new full-view browse mode?
  • What do you think of the new navigation sidebar? Does it better enable you to specify your browse settings?

DeviantART is proud to announce two major improvements to the way you browse and discover artwork on the site. And as Beta Testers, we’d like you to be the first to give these new enhancements a test drive!

It's fine if there is a clickable link to images that are "More Like This" but the box of deviations that automatically displays? That is ridiculous. Who wants their work to have to compete for their followers attention like that? Not to mention, some of the pieces that appear have nothing to do with the original work shown. A disable capability needs to be allowed. Trust me, I get needing exposure, but no artist should have to share their exposure against their will (especially, when we have no idea if the artist we're sharing that exposure with are just as serious about their work as we are about ours).

I do not like the 6 pack thumbnails that is now displayed automatically next to deviations. These are often old pictures of mine (or of other people!) and I personally do not want my old work to be disposed besides each new deviation. Moreover it's distracting. It would be interesting as long as I can choose which images to show off! And on which criteria do you choose the "more like this" thumbnails? They are not "LIKE THIS".
The "More like this button" is ok when people choose to see more like this. But not AUTOMATICALLY displayed beside deviations.

I love it. It's worse than stumbleupon or pinterest. Except with art I could scroll through for hours ~u~

Well ,
I'm not a beta tester , but if these terrific options are available ... man ...
I should be !! These are super easy to use .This is a far superior way to
search . Although , I do think it should be more inclusive , of everyone .
Sorry . I always talk to much and I shouldn't be here .
